"Whoa! Slow Down!"
That's what the professor said as I ran past her in the hallway.
It’s clearly a cultural perspective.
Everyone at school exists on a spectrum between two perspectives: hustling, or chilling. The Visual Analog Scale is irrelevant–it doesn’t matter how painstaking the student finds their journey. What matters is their perspective.
The same concept is true for someone driving to work, or people at their desks.
You’re either trying to get through “this” to get to “that” (with all the ups and downs that this state entails) or you’re not.
In the hallway, the hustlers are stressed, wound up, and no more likely to get where they’re going on time without having forgotten something and needing to double back.
In the grander scheme, on the other hand, the hustlers often avoid getting sidetracked and (sometimes) are more likely to accomplish the unexpected.
The two opportunities:
- redefine “hustling” to be a version of your effective self. So that “hustle” isn’t a persona, an accident, or compensation. It’s an asset.
- Turn on “hustle” whenever you need it, and turn it off when you don’t.
